Ordered a sample online (20-05-2018) which I never received, phoned numerous times, never managed to speak to anyone who could help, and never received a call back. Another time I phoned querying the use class rating of their deck timber, the guy clearly had no idea what I was on about, even suggesting their wood was not suitable for external use - they advertise wooden joists for decks!!!!
I have emailed twice in the last week asking for a price for some materials and have had no response .First was on 4/01/19 then again on 9/01/19 . I have used ST on many occassions purchasing fencing and decking and various timbers for projects and have been pleased with their business . It's not a large order and was thinking maybe it's too small but if that was the case I would've appreciated a reply so I could move on and find another dealer .There is no point in having and online presence and then ignore your customers.
***Update***The team at Shawfield have been very proactive in resolving the issues. ***Update***Really not the best experience using them for the first time. I was referred by a friend. Placed the order online and didn't get a confirmation email other than the order number at placement. Waited in all day for the delivery, nothing arrived. Called to be told they were out of stock for part of the order and that I could wait for the full order to come in. They did say they tried to call me but I must have put the wrong number down, however the order confirmation, I later saw, was the right number? A week later it arrived but was almost all the wrong order so had to send it back. Then was told it would be out later the same day, then the next morning first thing, then late morning and so on The team were all really friendly and apologetic but this has wasted days for me and the good weather will be long gone! Had so many chances to get it right but it seemed to be fail after fail. Setting realistic expectations can really save time for customers and complaints from them.
Placed order for 6 items of ironmongery. Only 1 arrived.Paid in full with order.No one available to take calls. No response at all to email.
I used this merchant for a couple of years and spent thousands on timber. They have an average to sometimes poor/ unhelpful service (depending on which staff member you deal with) and average stock range but you may need to look elsewhere for anything beyond bog standard. They wasted my time on a few occasions and ordering online doesn't save you any time as you still have to wait at the counter for them to process the order and then wait for it to be selected. I've waited half an hour at times even after pre-ordering. Chased them for a couple of days for a simple refund and finally decided I'd had enough hassle. We were about to spend over a thousand pounds on flooring and went elsewhere as a result. I've found another local timber merchant and it's hassle-free service by comparison.
